Malahne

50M CLASSIC MOTOR YACHT

 Restore a Classic

About the Project

G. L. Watson & Co. led the team to recover Malahne from near Tarragona in Spain. The once famous and elegant 1937 Camper & Nicholsons motor yacht had undergone just about every indignity possible.

Having recovered Malahne from near Tarragona and over seen her loading aboard the heavy lift ship Condock V, G. L. Watson & Co. were appointed Exterior Designers with a brief to restore Malahne to her original appearance. This work included developing the revised layout for all accommodation and taking a lead role in preparing the specification for the restoration. To inform our design work we undertook detailed research prior to producing a complete Large Yacht Code-compliant design package. As Interior Designers we produced the designs for the crew accommodation and wheelhouse, using many of the detailed features and style of the Camper & Nicholsons original whilst discretely incorporating modern services.

Malahne arrived at Pendennis in September 2012 where G.L. Watson & Co. were joint Owner’s Representatives with Edmiston Yacht Management. We have had lead responsibility for structural and outfitting issues, with Edmiston leading on systems, paint and in-service management.

During the 30 month restoration programme Malahne’s entire structure was rebuilt prior to the start of very high quality outfitting. To ensure authenticity and quality, our designs included every butt on the teak decks, inspection of every piece of timber used as well as carrying out a detailed Quality Assurance regime.

Malahne’s re-launch and the completion of this ambitious and ground breaking restoration has shown us again the beauty of the original design in which our efforts have disappeared into this seamless restoration of the original.

As well as our design work on Malahne, we also designed the 7.6M custom 35 knot speed boat which ornaments her.

Malahne is now in the Mediterranean where she is available for charter.
