To bring Moonbeam IV back to top sailing and aesthetic condition she needed major work but it was imperative not to lose a season’s sailing. In the first winter we consulted on a substantial rig overhaul and structural fundamentals which preparing new designs for the interior and all deck structures.
William Fife’s design drawings provided key information as did original correspondence with the first owner. But Fife was designing for his own yard and his drawings provide few clues to his in-house style. Over the years we have captured all the typical mouldings used by the Fife yard and were able to use these to supplement the design and ensure accuracy. We also incorporated modern amenities in an unobtrusive manner making this a working yacht and not a museum piece. The new interior was entirely built off the yacht and fitted after completion of the hull refit and the installation of all new systems.
On deck the skylights, hatches and doghouse were poor approximations of the originals. Our production of detailed working drawings allowed the creation of a new set of structures complete with custom fittings which we commissioned from specialist manufacturers.
Careful attention to detail has created a level of authenticity and quality which we are confident that William Fife would recognise were he to step aboard.
